When the Mujahideen took power in 1992, the television station was disused. When the Taliban rose into power, the Taliban government in 1996 banned TV, and they went and destroyed the television station. ANTV was closed down. However, the national TV archives were saved. When the Taliban's rule was over, the television station was re-launched just a year later in 2002.
